BIO Blueberries in Syrup

  • History:

For the line of products based on Blueberry and Berries we have chosen Azienda Agricola i Rodi, a family-run business located in Fanano on the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, surrounded by green meadows and chestnut woods; the company philosophy is based on organic farming and a complete production cycle that includes separate waste collection, energy saving and photovoltaic systems, to ensure total respect for the environment. After the cultivation of blackberries, red currants, black currants, strawberries, raspberries and the subsequent harvest (to which we add the bilberry, not cultivated but wild), we move on to the transformation in a small artisan laboratory also located near the company: it is one of the few companies that can certify blueberry-based products from the Modenese Apennines with the mark of the Modena Chamber of Commerce, to ensure the origin and high quality of the fruit.

  • Il Mirtillo Nero è diverso dal Mirtillo coltivato!

The bilberry, or wild blueberry, is a completely spontaneous fruit, which is neither sown nor cultivated by man; it can be found in the areas of Northern Europe and, in our case, in the Modenese Apennines above 1500 m asl: it will later be certified as "Biological Blueberry of the Modenese Apennines". This food has an intense bluish color on the outside with a more vivid red tone inside the pulp and to grow it needs climatic conditions characterized by an alternation between cold and snowy days and other longer and sunny ones; these small "berries" also ensure a very high content of anthocyanins (almost 8 times more than the cultivated blueberry!) and polyphenols, which perform important antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Unlike the cultivated blueberry, it is a more artisanal product, harvested completely by hand, and which is always genuine and with very intense flavors and aromas.

  • Product description:

These Blueberries in Syrup are produced using the Blueberry of the Modenese Apennines collected by the I Rodi Agricultural Company, in the territories between Sestola and Fanano. For the creation of this delicacy, simple syrup of water and cane sugar (Bio) is added to the wild blueberry fruits, obtaining a dark purplish color, a delicate but heady scent and a sweet, intense taste with astringent nuances.

It will be delivered in a glass jar with label and airtight seal.

  • Tips & Pairings:

We recommend using it over ricotta, ice cream, fruit salad, yogurt, panna cotta or artisan desserts; turns out to be that extra touch that is truly inevitable as an elegant garnish for confectionery products. Excellent if consumed "in purity" as a small vice at the end of a meal or as a snack.
